Slim Fast Diet |

There are a dozen different diets these days, some make you eat more protein, and some make you eat less potatoes and bread. With the Slim Fast Diet, you consume shakes. Others claim that this diet works wonders, while others think of it as garbage.
How does it work?
The basic concept of the Slim Fast Diet is to replace two daily meals, breakfast and lunch, with Slim Fast shakes added with a nutrition bar and two pieces of fruit, and have a regular meal for dinner. Regular meal means that keeping the portions just average and being aware of the nutrition guidelines. The dinner is actually the only time you get to eat actual foods with high nutritional value.
Apart from the shakes, you are also required to drink 6 to 8 glasses of water a day and 30 to 60 minutes of exercise to help the weight loss process.
So is it effective?
The Slim Fast Diet is pretty effective in making you lose weight fast, but the problem with liquid diets and meal replacements is that 25% of the weight that you lose is from muscle tissue. Most dieters who lost a lot of weight during the first few months gain it all back the following year. Moreover, low calorie diets have side effects like dry mouth, headache, fatigue, hair loss, and menstrual irregularities.
Is it a recommended diet?
The Slim Fast Diet or any meal replacements cannot substitute a proper diet. These diets should not be used for four weeks in a row. Using them for a week or two as a shock treatment is okay, but using them for a longer period is asking for trouble.
Upside:
- Easy to follow
- It does not involve counting calories
- Effective weight loss
Downside:
- 25% of weight loss is from muscle tissue
- Not for long term
- Negative side effects
- Expensive
- Unhealthy
