Healthy Fast Food Choices

Almost everyone had their share of fast food. Sometimes we just don’t have the time to prepare a decent meal and so we just grab something that can satisfy our hunger. But there are others who enjoy eating this kind of food even though they know that there are health risks involved.

Sure, I too am guilty for craving a burger or fries but have never made it a habit to eat fast food regularly and so can you. But if it’s too difficult for you to stay away from fast foods, there are still healthy food choices in a fast food restuarant. You just have to know foods that aren’t highly fattening.

Substitute french fries with baked potatoes. French fries are high in fat because of the oil. You can opt for baked potatoes instead. If they have potatoes without the dressing, so much the better. Potatoes are rich in carbohydrates. You’ll burn your energy longer.

Go for fiber. There are plenty of salads that you can choose from. Choose garden salads with low-fat dressing. Vegetable salads are high in fiber and carbohydrates, so you’ll feel fuller for a long time.

Hold the mayo. You can always substitute mayonnaise with ketchup or mustard for all your sandwiches and burgers.

Pick grilled sandwiches. Instead of the usual fatty burgers and deep fried sandwiches choose some grilled chicken or lean beef sandwich. These are high in protein and low in fat. Just hold the sauces and get extra lettuce and tomatoes.

Vegetarian pizza. There are mouth-watering vegetarian pizzas available. Opt for thin crust with regular cheese. Better yet, if there are whole-wheat crust pizzas, choose those.

Fruit desserts. Fruit pies and fruit salads are so much better than cakes or muffins since they are high in fiber and contain less saturated oil.

Cold Desserts. Sundaes and shakes are highly fattening so the best substitute for your cold treats are ice smoothies and low-fat yogurt.

Beans. Beans are always a good choice since they are high in protein and fiber but low in fat. And beans’ soluble fiber helps in lowering cholesterol. But watch out for those creamy sauces they put in your beans.

Kids meal. If you really can’t refrain from eating all the fast foods that can damage your health, the last alternative is the kids’ meal. You’ll be eating all the fatty foods that you want, but at least in small portions.

We are not encouraging people to eat at fast food restaurants, this is merely an alternative for people who are always on the go and have no time to prepare their own meal.
